Sonny Moore placed his career as post-hardcore vocalist behind him in 2008 when he quit his band From First to Last and launched the dancefloor-oriented project Skrillex. Skrillex previously utilized the term for live DJ performances, but the concept went into the studio in 2009, with Skrillex remixing Lady Gaga (Bad Romance) and Snoop Dogg (Sensual Seduction). In 2010, Skrillex self-released the digital download EP My Name Is Skrillex, which combined the electro sounds of Benny Benassi and Deadmau5 with the over-the-top samples and gigantic noises of artists like the Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Moore would join with Deadmau5 Mau5trap label that same year where he would release his second EP Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites along with the club hit Kill Everybody. If topping the club charts wasn't enough, a 2011 cameo on the resurrected Beavis & Butthead television series, as well as a collaboration with the surviving members of The Doors called Breakin' a Sweat, did. The track's recording was documented in the documentary film RE:GENERATION, and the song itself was released in early 2012 on Skrillex's Bangarang EP. After releasing multiple EPs, he launched his debut LP Recess in March 2014.
