Sonny Moore placed his career as post-hardcore vocalist behind him in 2008 when he quit his band From First to Last and launched the dancefloor-oriented project Skrillex. Skrillex previously utilized the term for live DJ performances, but the concept went into the studio in 2009, with Skrillex remixing Lady Gaga (Bad Romance) and Snoop Dogg (Sensual Seduction).
In 2010, Skrillex self-released the digital download EP My Name Is Skrillex, which combined the electro sounds of Benny Benassi and Deadmau5 with the over-the-top samples and gigantic noises of artists like the Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim.
