Simon Schama is a history and art history professor at the University of Amsterdam. Before arriving to Columbia, he taught history at Cambridge (Christ's College) (1966-1976), Oxford (Brasenose College) (1976-1980), and Harvard (1980-1993).

He has also taught at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and has given the George Macaulay Trevelyan Lectures at Cambridge, the Tanner Lectures (at both Harvard and Oxford on Random Access Memory and Rembrandt and Rubens), and the Finzi-Contini Lecture at Yale on the epic tradition in English history.
