The name is a play on the name of main vocalist J3nsi Birgisson's younger sister Sigurr3s. They are from the same colorful and inventive Icelandic music culture as mom and Amiina. In late 2007, they made their first step into filmmaking with the tour documentary Heima.
J3n 3r Birgisson (J3nsi), Georg H3lm, and gost var Gunnarsson founded the band in August 1994 in Reykjavik, Iceland. They quickly signed a record deal with Smekkleysa, a local record company (Bad Taste). Von (Hope) was published in 1997, and Von Brig�i, a remix compilation, was released in 1998. Vonbrig�i implies disappointment in Icelandic, but Vonbrig�i also signifies hope change.
