Shin-pei Tsay Biography

Shin-pei Tsay is the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's director of Cities and Transportation in the Energy and Climate Program. Her research focuses on challenges of urban and regional planning, including transportation, economic development, energy, and climate change policy. Tsay previously worked as the deputy director of Transportation Alternatives, a nationally recognized non-profit focused on transportation issues in New York City; as a founding member of ZGF architects' NYC office where she was on the sustainability team; as the chief operating officer of Project for Public Spaces, an international non-profit; and as a strategy consultant with a Fortune 500 firm. She recently contributed to New York City's Street Design Manual, Active Living Design Guidelines for New York City, and New York State's Livable Communities Manual. She also co-founded Planning Corps, an organization that connects urban planners with community-based projects, and her work will be included in the United States Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale of Architecture. She has been interviewed and mentioned in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR Marketplace, and other local and industry newspapers, and she is a popular speaker. She was a finalist in the international design competition Reinventing Grand Army Plaza, and her work was included in a book. Tsay is a LEED credentialed professional who also evaluates books for the quarterly magazine Urban Design Review published by the Urban Design Forum.
