Shimon Schocken is the IDB Professor of Information Technologies and the founder of the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science at Israel's Interdisciplinary Center (IDC). After ten years at NYU, he returned to Israel to help establish IDC Herzliya, Israel's first private non-profit university.
He and Noam Nisan co-created a novel way to teaching practical computer science in 2005, which was published as The Elements of Computing Systems by MIT Press. Many universities, from Harvard to the University of the People, offer courses based on the book. Schocken is proud of his public role as a teacher.
