Shigeru Ban is the founder of Shigeru Ban Architects and the non-governmental organization VAN in Tokyo, Japan (Voluntary Architects Network). He is known for his dynamic paper structures and one-of-a-kind structural solutions. Ban received the University of Virginia's 40th annual Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture in 2005. Ban has taught at Columbia University and Keio University as a visiting professor. Ban formerly worked as a consultant for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
