David and Jacque Morelli's daughter Shawn is married to Major Carl Dick of the United States Army. She is an Army veteran who competed in her first Warrior Games in 2010. Morelli was critically injured by an improvised explosive device while serving as an engineer officer in Afghanistan in 2007.
She suffered neck nerve damage, brain trauma, and blindness in her left eye. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in public and community service, but she has placed her studies and research on hold in order to train. She played soccer in college and semi-professionally in Europe after graduating.
