Before becoming Shakey Graves, Rose-Garcia worked as an actor in Friday Night Lights and the Spy Kids franchise. Shakey Graves became well-known for his sparse band lineup, and much of his 2011 self-released first album, Roll the Bones, has him performing alone.
Shakey Graves earned the Best Emerging Artist prize at the 2015 Americana Music Awards in September of that year. Shakey Graves and the Horse He Rode In, an album by the band that included The Donor Blues and Nobody's Fool, was released on vinyl and online under the Dualtone brand on June 30, 2017.
