At nine years old, Shahadi Wright Joseph, a resident of East New York, is the youngest performer to have ever played Young Nala in the Broadway production of Disney's The Lion King. In 2007, she began practicing her move at Purelements An Evolution in Dance (A non-benefit established by her folks, Kevin A Joseph, Dina Wright Joseph, and Lakai Worrell).
She studied West African modern dance, Caribbean dance, hip hop, and classical ballet there. Currently enrolled at the Trey Whitfield School, also in East New York, where she maintains a B+ average, she joined the Voices of Trey Concert Choir in 2012.
