Shaboozey is a Nigerian-American singer, rapper, songwriter, filmmaker, and producer whose genre-blending sound fuses country, hip-hop, Americana, trap, and folk. Of Igbo descent, born Collins Obinna Chibueze, his stage name is a playful twist on his surname, meaning "God is King". He was raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, by immigrant parents who instilled a love for storytelling.
Initially aspiring to write books, Shaboozey pivoted to music via SoundCloud rap, inspired by Drake, Joey Bada$$, and his father's country records. Dropping out of high school, he signed with Republic Records in 2017 after a 2016 indie deal.
