Sebastian Barry is a playwright, author, and artist from Ireland. Before writing plays and books, Barry began his artistic career as a poet. He used to be thought of as a writer who published novels sporadically, but lately, his fiction writing has been more successful than his work in the theatre.
His books A Long Way (2005) and The Secret Scripture (2008), the latter of which won the 2008 Costa Book of the Year and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, have both been nominated for the Man Booker Prize. On Canaan's Side, his 2011 book, made the Booker long list.
