Seasick Steve, also known as Steve Wold, began recording his songs much later than other musicians, like T-Model Ford. Wold, a narrative vocalist revitalizing traditional country blues, was raised in California but left home at 14. He spent a considerable amount of time as a wanderer, jumping trains and maintaining unknown sources of money.
After drifting around Europe and the United States, he eventually found himself in Norway. In addition to having a robust melodic basis (which includes performing with John Lee Hooker and recording early Modest Mouse performances that appeared on BBC TV), Wold is renowned for the startling originality of his stringed instrument designs.
