Michael's adoptive father, Sean Tuohy, is a prosperous multi-brand fast food tycoon. Before ruling the franchise world, he broke basketball records in the South Eastern Conference (SEC) and was selected in the NBA draught. Tuohy has more than 15 years of experience working as an NBA broadcaster for the Memphis Grizzlies and owning and managing more than 60 fast-food establishments.
Sean and the entire Tuohy family were present in February 2013 to support Michael and the Baltimore Ravens as they won their first Super Bowl. Michael is now an offensive lineman with the NFL's Carolina Panthers. One of the most sought-after motivational speakers, Sean has spoken to various groups, including Fortune 500 companies, town halls, religious organizations, and college campuses.
From the stage, Sean offers an uplifting and joyful invitation to the audience to peek behind the scenes at the Tuohy household: "In our family, we believe in miracles. One small act of kindness at random can change someone's life.
With his trademark southern charm, Tuohy offers personal experiences while posing the straightforward query, "How many more youngsters like Michael Oher are going through the gaps every day?" And how can we have a good effect on altering a dysfunctional system? Tuohy lectures on various subjects, including treating people fairly, generosity, and finances.
Tuohy, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, understood what it meant to be an underprivileged student in a private school because he had been one. Tuohy left home after graduating from The Isidore Newman School and went on a basketball scholarship to The University of Mississippi, popularly known as Ole Miss.
Tuohy used athletics as his means of support throughout high school and college. When Tuohy received his degree from Ole Miss, he broke every significant SEC assist record. In the SEC, Tuohy had become legendary. He guided Ole Miss to its first-ever SEC title and boasted accolades like induction into the Hall of Fame and retired jerseys.
Tuohy was selected by the New Jersey Nets of the NBA in 1982, but he decided to pursue his career abroad before returning to the US to be with his father in his last days. After becoming a successful entrepreneur, he established a corporation that today owns and runs fast food restaurants, including Taco Bell, KFC, and Freddy's.
Since 1982, Tuohy has been wed to the former Leigh Anne Roberts, his college cheerleading love. Collins, Michael Oher, and Sean Junior are their sons and happy parents of Collins. Tuohy worked as a broadcaster for Westwood One and CBS radio before beginning his career in NBA broadcasting.
He also served as an analyst for the radio broadcast at Ole Miss. Tuohy has a busy schedule that includes work, radio, education, religion (he and others helped found the Grace Evangelical Church, one of Memphis's fastest-growing congregations), and various charities that benefit children. It's simple to beat up a youngster, claims Tuohy.
Building him up takes a lot of work. The Tuohy family's adoption of Michael as their son was motivated by this attitude, which drove them to welcome Michael into their house, provide for his needs, and love and support him. The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, a New York Times bestseller, provided a detailed account of The Tuohy's existence.
After then, the novel was turned into a Hollywood blockbuster movie that broke box office records and made more than $400 million. The Blind Side has surpassed Rocky to become the most popular sports-themed film ever! National media outlets, including Katie, Fox and Friends, Good Morning America, 20/20, The Today Show, Dr.
Drew, Sean Hannity, and Huckabee, have all highlighted the inspiring tale of the Tuohy family.
