Sean Patrick Flanery Biography

For more than 20 years, Sean Patrick Flanery has been a fixture on many people's television sets. He has demonstrated his hand-to-hand combat skills in more than 50 different action films and three television series. In sequences from "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles," "The Boondock Saints," "The Dead Zone," and "Savage Impact" (alongside Joey Pantolioni), he employs Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, and, in any case, CHI to achieve touchless knockouts. He began training for hand-to-hand combat when he was nine years old and continued with many instructors throughout his time in school. Nevertheless, after discovering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he gave up the numerous expressions and didn't look back. Sean began his quest to get a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu dark belt by spending his first three years studying under Rickson Gracie at the Rickson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu School in Los Angeles. Sean took a break from his busy shooting schedule in the late spring of 2003 to train and compete nationally, and the results were fantastic. At that time, he sought out and trained with the best instructors at the well-known Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu School in Manhattan, and on May 4, 2008, Sean was awarded his dark belt, the first-ever by Renzo's own Professor S. Williams. Sean established Hollywood Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Los Angeles about ten years ago, and he can still be seen there everyday teaching and training.
