Born in Miami, Florida, at the time, and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, starting at age six, he mixed quite a bit of dancehall and reggae into his hip-jump. He started working hard on the Miami talent show and feature circuit, using his abilities to write rhymes and snares, and eventually offered the stage to Pitbull, Ludacris, and Trick Daddy. Before the big-name bidding wars began, producer Jonathan J.R. Rotem (Britney Spears, 50 Cent, Rihanna) acquired the young rapper's demo and signed him to his Beluga Heights record label. The song Colors 2007 featuring the Game and Rick Ross was released in the spring of 2007 by Sony Engrave Epic as their new artisan. Kingston was only 16 when the song dropped, even though he seemed much more experienced. He transformed Ben E. Ruler's Stand by Me into a massive smash with his second song, Beautiful Girls. The artist felt that this stance, cleaner, smoother, and less brutal, matched him, and he passionately considered it for his self-titled debut full-length. His second album, My Girlfriend, including the songs Fire Burning Face Drop and My Girlfriend, were released in 2009.
