His mother is the daughter of a Pennsylvania farmer, while his father is a Norwegian immigrant who became a Baptist preacher. Being the middle child of four children and the son of a preacher provided him with an unusual upbringing.
Before graduating from college, Scotty lived in six states and attended eight different institutions. He learned at a young age that making others laugh was the greatest way to establish friends. When he was diagnosed with ADHD after college graduation, it suddenly made sense why he had been thrown in time out over 10 million times.
