Scott Nelson was raised in the Florida town of Sanford. He obtained a Ph.D. in American History from the University of North Carolina in 1995 after working as a system engineer and instructor in Toronto, Ontario, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, respectively, as well as a bookshop table attendant.
He teaches American History from the nineteenth century as the Legum Professor of History at the College of William & Mary. Nelson is a kind, witty, and approachable educator.
