Olympic gold medallist and retired American professional skater Scott Hamilton. He won four consecutive U.S. championships (1981–1984), four consecutive World Championships (1981–1984), and an Olympic gold medal in 1984. The 1981 U.S. Championships were where Hamilton's progression execution took place. A few seconds before the demonstration ended, the crowd applauded wildly in response to his flawless performance.
He never again suffered a novice defeat. He took home the gold at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1981. He won gold in the U.S. and World Championships again in 1982 and 1983. He also won the gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics. He won the World Championships that year, and in April 1984, he attained proficiency.
