Grimes started acting at a young age. He co-starred with Mickey Rooney in the made-for-TV special. It Came Upon the Midnight Clear in 1984 when he was 13 years old. He appeared in the Twilight Zone episode Little Boy Lost from 1985.
Grimes began singing in his early years and performed Somewhere Over The Rainbow on a Bob Hope TV special in March 1986. The King and Queen of Sweden participated in the remarkable recording.
