In April 1996, Scala conducted their first rehearsal with 18 vocalists in the group, a talented stone wind group of Belgium young women.
Scala's positions evolved as the young women won various awards, including the title of Belgium's Choir of the Year in 1999, and Steven and Stijn Kolacny, siblings who played the piano and served as the group's director and pianist, respectively, treated the group from the start like an old-style outfit.
