Sarah Kay is a spoken word poet who grew up in New York City and began performing her poetry at barely fourteen. Sarah made herself at home at the Bowery Poetry Club, one of New York's most renowned Spoken Word venues, despite often being by ten years the youngest performer there. She competed in the 2006 National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX, after joining the Bowery Poetry Club's Poetry Slam Team N.Y.C. Urbana. She was the writer competing at Nationals that year and was the youngest. In the sixth phase of the HBO television production Def Poetry Jam, Sarah was featured and performed her sonnet Hands. She has performed in theatre productions around the country and at the Tribeca Film Festival, the United Nations, and Lincoln Center, where she was a featured performer for the 2004 World Youth Report. She has also performed internationally in the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom: Singapore, France, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and India. In 2004, Sarah founded Project V.O.I.C.E. She has since taught Spoken Word Poetry to students in study halls and workshops worldwide on an equal basis. Sarah was one of the featured speakers during the 2011 T.E.D. conference (Technology Entertainment Design) on The Rediscovery of Wonder in Long Beach, California.
