Sara Gilbert Biography

Sara Gilbert was born to Harold and Barbara Abeles on January 29, 1975, as Sara Rebecca Abeles at St. John's Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica, California. Paul Gilbert, who passed away, was previously married to Barbara. When Sara witnessed Melissa Gilbert receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame when she was six years old, She informed her mother that she too wanted to be an actor. She took the Gilbert family name after appearing in many advertisements and the CBS TV drama Calamity Jane in 1984. She was unsuccessful in securing the rights to the new The Facts of Life (1979) program before finding success with Roseanne (1988). Sara worked on the agenda for nine years and was allowed time off to attend Yale University, where she received an honors degree in 1997. In addition to Roseanne (1988), she also voiced Laura Powers on The Simpsons (1989) and acted in several films, such as Sudie and Simpson (1990), Poison Ivy (1992), and Light It Up (1993).
