Being raised with conventional Christian views, Sara was initially saddened to learn that one of her two boys, Parker (a free Mom Hugs board member), was LGBT. She said I struggled with my faith as if I had to decide between it and my son. As a result, I reexamined all of my beliefs. Yet, she persisted and educated herself.
She attended her first Pride event in 2014 with Parker and her husband, Rex. She went again the following year but wore a handmade pin that said, "Free Mom Hugs." She frequently tells her tale since she is a skilled speaker.
