Sandra Postel is the director of the Global Water Policy Project, an independent think tank that speaks, publishes, and advises on global water concerns. She was named a Freshwater Fellow of the National Geographic Society in 2010, and she now serves as the Society's main water specialist.

Sandra is a co-founder of Change the Course, a nationwide movement for freshwater protection and restoration. Sandra was a visiting senior lecturer in Environmental Studies at Mount Holyoke College from 2000 to 2008 and led the college's Center for the Environment late in her tenure. She was vice president for research at the Worldwatch Institute from 1988 to 1994.
