Early in his adolescence, Sampha Sisay began composing music. He tried to get MCs to rap over his rhythms but was rejected. His first release was Sundanza, a CD-R EP through Young Turks. Most songs on SBTRKT's 2011 self-titled album included Sisay in some way.
His 2012 wasn't nearly as dramatic, but in 2013 came Dual, the second Sampha EP published on the label Young Turks, and a featured appearance on Drake's Too Much (from Nothing Was the Same). The latter album, which was abstract and minimalist, served as a brief showcase for Sisay's expressive yet fragile-sounding voice.
