Sam Gold oversaw the Roundabout Theatre Company's revivals of Picnic in 2013 and Seminar in 2011. He received the 2014 Obie Award for Musical Theater and the 2015 Tony Award for Best Directing of a Musical for Fun Home. He oversaw the 2012 Roundabout Theatre Company production of Look Back in Anger.
In July 2013, he led a staged performance of The Cradle Will Rock for Encores! Off-Center. In 2011 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, he directed A Doll's Home in local theatre. He oversaw the Off-Broadway New York Theatre Workshop production of Othello, which starred David Oyelowo and Daniel Craig.
