Television director and writer Salim Akil are well-known for his work on well-liked black television programs. Akil began working on the award-winning Soulfood series on Showtime as a staff writer. He swiftly advanced to Executive Producer of the whole series in addition to directing and writing many episodes.
He has been a director on several other TV shows, such as BET's Being Mary Jane, CW's The Game, and UPN's Girlfriends. He and his wife and frequent partner Mara Brock Akil recently created a television series based on DC Comics' Black Lightning. In addition, Akil has dabbled in acting in movies.
