Russel Honoré is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general nicknamed "The Ragin' Cajun”. He grew up on a subsistence farm as one of 12 children in a Louisiana Creole family, earned a B.S. in vocational agriculture from Southern University (1971), and later earned an M.A. in human resources. A 37-year veteran, Honoré commanded the U.S. First Army and rose to national prominence as head of Joint Task Force Katrina in 2005. His decisive, no-nonsense leadership coordinated military relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina, earning him the nickname "Category 5 General."
