Russ Altman is a Stanford University professor of bioengineering, genetics, medicine, and computer science. His major research interests are in the use of computers and informatics technologies to medical problems. He's particularly interested in approaches for analyzing pharmacological effects at the molecular, cellular, organism, and population levels, as well as how genetic diversity influences drug response.
Altman earned the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, and a graduate teaching award from Stanford Medical School. He has served on the NIH Director's Advisory Committee and has led the Science Board that advises the FDA Commissioner.
