Moreno's actual comedy career began in April 1991, when another Rudy, Rudy Salas of the rhythm and blues group Tierra, persuaded Moreno to open their show. Rudy had had enough. He was enamored by the plaudits and adoration he received for his ability to make others laugh.
Rudy took off after meeting humorous man Gilbert Esquivel, who introduced him to the L.A. club scene. He'd start arranging gigs and get L.A. crowds up and dancing. He was then requested to open for vocal groups such as Los Lobos, the Temptations, Lynyrd Skynyrd, War, Ice Cube, and, most recently, Smokey Robinson.
