Roger Angell is an American writer who specializes in sports writing, particularly baseball. He has been a frequent writer for The New Yorker for many years and served as its top fiction editor. He's published various pieces of fiction, nonfiction, and criticism, as well as an annual Christmas poem for The New Yorker for many years.
In 1980, he won the George Polk Award for Commentary, the Kenyon Review Award for Literary Achievement in 2005 alongside Umberto Eco, and the inaugural PEN/ESPN Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Sports Writing in 2011.
