Rodney Cutler Biography

Rodney Cutler's hairstyling career began when he was 16 years old and was offered a four-year apprenticeship at Rifmik, one of Australia's most prestigious hair salons. In this role, he thrived and began winning contests, as well as guest teaching and exhibiting at different hair trade fairs and training schools. Rodney chose to explore the world after his success in Australia, which led him to New York and finally to his job at Bumble & Bumble Salon in 1992. Rodney climbed quickly up the ranks at Bumble & Bumble, becoming one of the salon's top stylists and a driving force behind much of the salon's media exposure, all while expanding the salon's soon-to-be-famous education department. Rodney co-created an Assistant Hair Cutting Program that incorporated new haircutting techniques, taught other staff members, and organized the teachers, allowing many future professional stylists to join Bumble. Rodney and Nick Arrojo created the Arrojo Cutler Salon in 1998, taking their hair styling dreams to the next level. Rodney took his profession one step further by opening his own salon, the Cutler/Redken Salon, in December 2001, after attaining salon success. Cutler was known for their quirky downtown inventiveness, so it was only natural for him to go downtown, literally. Cutler SoHo, a modern clean facility with a loft-like, gallery vibe integrating cut and color on one floor, debuted in February 2005. The Redken Lab, a unique element of Cutler SoHo, brings colorists and clients together for in-depth talks about skin tone, color options, fashion, and more. Rodney has been in a number of national and regional consumer magazines as well as television shows. Rodney gives seminars around the country on the merging of fashion and beauty via runway hair and style. In early 2003, he created Cutler Education, where stylists from all over the country come to Cutler for a two-day course to learn from him. Rodney spends his free time training for and competing in Iron Man triathlons, as well as raising twin newborn boys.
