Robin Coste Lewis is an acclaimed American poet, artist, and scholar. Her debut poetry collection, "Voyage of the Sable Venus" (2015), won the National Book Award, a historic first for an African American poet’s debut, exploring Black female representation in Western art. Her later work, “To the Realization of Perfect Helplessness” (2022), earned the PEN/Voelcker Award and NAACP Image Award.
Lewis’s forthcoming book, “Archive of Desire” (2025), honors poet C.P. Cavafy. With a B.A. from Hampshire College, an MFA from NYU, an MTS from Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from USC, she researches African American poetry and photography. Lewis teaches at USC as a writer-in-residence.
