Roberto Benitez began studying the sweet science of boxing at the age of ten, originally to protect himself from bullies at school and in the neighborhood and to avoid unwanted influences. Benitez turned out to be a dedicated prodigy who learned to throw lethal combinations rapidly.
This youthful sensation has won 10 national titles, including the National Golden Gloves Championships in 1997 and 1999. Roberto demonstrated he was one of the best boxers in the world when he defeated number one ranked Cuban boxer Manuel Mantilla in the Goodwill Games in 1998, earning the country a silver medal.
