In 1966, Robert E. Rubin began his financial career with Goldman, Sachs & Company in New York City. From 1987 to 1990, Mr. Rubin was vice chairman and co-chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs, and from 1990 to 1992, he was a co-senior partner and co-chairman.

He worked as an attorney at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York City from 1964 to 1966 before joining Goldman. Mr. Rubin joined the Bill Clinton administration in 1993 as assistant to the president for economic strategy and director of the newly established National Economic Council, after a long career in public service (NEC).
