Robert Full obtained his undergraduate degree from SUNY Buffalo in 1979, his master's degree in 1982, and a doctoral degree in 1984. He worked as a research and teaching postdoctoral fellow at The University of Chicago from 1984-1986, where he conducted research at Harvard University.
Full joined the University of California faculty in 1986 as an Assistant Professor of Zoology and was later promoted to Associate Professor of Integrative Biology in 1991 and Full Professor of Integrative Biology in 1995. He currently holds this position.
