Robert Fischell is an American inventor and biomedical engineer known for his contributions to medical device technology. Fischell's breakthrough came when he realized that a pacemaker was like a tiny satellite within the body. He went on to invent life-saving medical devices such as the implantable cardiac defibrillator and the implantable insulin pump, which have saved thousands of lives.

Even in retirement, Fischell continues to create devices to treat various ailments. In 2005, he was awarded the TED Prize and made three wishes, one of which was to design an implantable device to treat brain disorders. He also created a portable Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator, a drug-less migraine treatment.
