Robert Carlock began his career as a comedy writer on the Dana Carvey Show in 1996. He then joined the writing team of Saturday Night Live (SNL) and contributed to 99 episodes from 1996 to 2001. One of his famous SNL sketches was NPR's Delicious Dish featuring Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon.
In 2006, Carlock wrote for and produced the hit TV show 30 Rock, which won several awards, including Primetime Emmys, Writer's Guild of America Awards, and Producer's Guild of America Awards. Carlock also teamed up with Tina Fey on the sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015) and wrote the screenplay for her film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016).
