His debut feature picture, Chicago, starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere, earned him an Academy Award nomination for Directing in 2003. Memoirs of a Geisha, starring Zhang Ziyi, was his directorial debut in 2005. He directed the Broadway debut of Seussical: The Musical, based on Dr. Seuss's books, in 2000.
He also choreographed and co-directed Sam Mendes' critically praised Broadway production of Cabaret in 1998.
