Rise Against is a Chicago, Illinois-based melodic hardcore band that started in 1999. Tim McIlrath (vocalist/rhythm guitarist), Zach Blair (lead guitarist), Joe Principe (bassist), and Brandon Barnes (drummer) make up the band's current lineup. Guitarists Dan Wlekinski, Kevin White, Todd Mohney, and Chris Chasse, as well as drummers Toni Tintari and Dan Lumley, were all former members.
The band spent its first four years tied to Fat Wreck Chords, releasing two studio albums, The Unraveling and Revolutions per Minute, on the label. Both albums were well-received on the underground circuit, and the band was signed to the mainstream label Geffen in 2003.
