Rick "Ozzie" Nelson is a retired Navy helicopter pilot with more than two decades of operational and intelligence expertise, including stints at the National Security Council and the National Counterterrorism Center. He recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

He works as a senior fellow at CSIS's International Security Program, where he focuses on counterterrorism, homeland security, and defense problems. He entered CSIS in September 2009 after retiring from the United States Navy, where he held top planning and legislative posts.
