Rick believes that businesses should build a more sophisticated “stakeholder-centric” communications strategy that focuses on allowing consumers, business partners, and workers to interact more effectively with the firm and with one another, rather than just talking to individuals.

Rick tackles these challenges as well as providing solutions in key topic areas such as how to effectively manage social media, building communications strategy to enhance demonstrable business results, enhancing the customer experience while proceeding to reduce production costs, and enhancing customers ’ loyalty in an increasingly competitive marketplace, drawing on his more than 20 years of experience.

Rick, along with his colleagues Matt Dixon and Nick Toman, is a senior director and co-author of The Effortless Experience: Conquering the New Battleground for Customer Loyalty, which debunks the age-old customer service credo of "dazzling" consumers to develop brand loyalty.

Rather, Rick and his co-authors show that customer loyalty is based on how effectively a firm keeps its core promises and handles day-to-day difficulties, resulting in a pleasant customer experience. Rick worked as a writer, as well as in the airline and tourist sectors, for more than two decades, focusing on customer communication and public relations techniques.

He graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication with a bachelor's degree in communications. Rick is a Long Island native who now lives in Ashburn, Virginia with his family.
