Richard Thornburgh was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 41st Governor of Pennsylvania from 1979 to 1987 and the 76th United States Attorney General from 1988 to 1991 under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. As governor, he implemented various programs and policies that created jobs, reduced unemployment, and improved the state's infrastructure.

After leaving public office, Thornburgh became a law firm partner and served on various boards and commissions related to public service, education, and the arts.
