Salesforce's chief scientist is Richard Socher. He was formerly an adjunct professor at Stanford's computer science department and the CEO/CTO of MetaMind, which was bought by Salesforce in 2016. MetaMind is a firm whose goal is to develop ai technology and make it more accessible to the general public.
Socher is interested in building novel AI models that operate well across many tasks in natural language processing and computer vision, as well as enhancing the state of the art in AI through research. He worked on deep learning for his Ph.D. at Stanford's Computer Science Department.
