Richard Posner is an American jurist and economist widely recognized as one of the most influential legal thinkers of the 20th century. He was born on January 11, 1939, in New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
Posner served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. and then worked as an assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. He became a law professor at the University of Chicago in 1969. He was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 1981.
