Richard Ojeda is a former Army Major and Democratic politician who served as the West Virginia State Senator from the 7th district from 2016 to 2019. He gained national attention for his vocal support of the 2018 teachers' strike and his advocacy for the legalization of cannabis in West Virginia.
Ojeda briefly ran for President of the United States in the 2020 election before dropping out in January 2019. He was born in Rochester, Minnesota, to a Democratic family. He earned a bachelor's degree from West Virginia State University and a master's degree from Webster University.
