Richard de Crespigny is an Australian pilot and aviation safety expert. He was born in Papua New Guinea and raised in Melbourne, Australia. De Crespigny joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1975 and served as a fighter pilot for over a decade before transitioning to commercial aviation.
In 2010, de Crespigny was the captain of Qantas Flight 32, which suffered a catastrophic engine failure shortly after takeoff from Singapore. Despite the severity of the situation, de Crespigny and his crew were able to successfully land the plane and evacuate all 469 passengers and crew members safely.
