Rian Johnson is an American filmmaker, writer, and director best known for his work on the science fiction film "Looper" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Johnson began making films at a young age with a Super 8 camera. He later attended the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
He wrote and directed the award-winning short film "Evil Demon Golf Ball from Hell!!!" After graduation, Johnson directed his first feature film, "Brick," a neo-noir crime thriller set in a California high school. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005. It was a critical success, earning Johnson the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision.
