Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori is an Episcopal bishop, theologian, and former Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States. She became the first woman elected as a presiding bishop in the Anglican Communion in 2006. She served in this role until 2015.
During her tenure, she focused on issues such as climate change, immigration reform, and human rights. Before her role as Presiding Bishop, Jefferts Schori served as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada. She is also a trained pilot with a Ph.D. in oceanography from Oregon State University. Today, she advocates for justice and equality within the church and society.
