Renee Taylor launched her career as a revue comedian and writer in New York during the 1950s. She first gained national recognition as a semi-regular on The Jack Paar Show, frequently portraying Jewish characters.
Taylor's breakthrough came when she was cast in Mel Brooks' film version of "The Producers." In 1977, she appeared on the syndicated "Fernwood Tonight" as a character who claimed to be the missing Mary Hartman.
